Pickle Milkshake at Disney EPCOT

Let’s talk about the Pickle Milkshake at Disney World

I truly never thought I’d be writing about a pickle… especially not a pickle milkshake! When we heard that Disney came out with a pickle milkshake for the 2023 Food and Wine Festival, being pickle lovers, we were intrigued. When we heard that there would be a Muppets-themed Brew-Wing Lab in the Odyssey Pavilion, we HAD to give it a try!

It’s presented in an adorable Pickle mason jar (plastic – you get to keep it!) and garnished with whipped cream and some dill.

We knew that trying a pickle-flavored milkshake came with its own risks, but considering my daughter’s love of pickles, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. To be safe we ordered a few other things at the Brew-Wing Lab so we had a palate cleanser, just in case… spoiler alert… we needed it!

One of the most anticipated items on the menu at the Disney Food and Wine Festival was the quite uniqye Pickle Milkshake. This milkshake promised an (unforgettable) blend of sweet and sour.

Sour was how we felt after trying it. Unfortunately for us, this “exciting” treat was a flop.

Our great Anticipation

Anticipation for the Special Pickle Milkshake was high. We had seen social media posts and YouTube videos with very mixed reviews. But our hope kept us strong as we walked into the Odyssey to try this unusual treat. We couldn’t help ourselves.

The Disappointment Begins

From the first sip, I knew. I knew that this was not going to fill our dilly-dreams. It did have plenty of dill though, lots of dill herbs and not much pickle flavor that we’re used to. It tasted like an herbal milkshake. Thank goodness for the vanilla aftertaste and the fact that we purchased other snacks because we knew this might just be a terrible treat.

Dear Dill, why’d you go and ruin a good thing?

Many people truly love the dill herb. To be honest I’m not a fan… so why, you might be asking, would I try a Pickle Milkshake? Well, I love pickles in their vinegary brine and subtle dill. For some reason, I love a pickle but hate the dill herbs. But this green Pickle Milkshake was overloaded with dill. The dill overpowered everything, making the milkshake reminiscent of a failed science experiment rather than a culinary delight.

Texture was Not Quite right

So we’re already starting off on the wrong food… add in some weird lumps and there you have it… a pickle milkshake… why was I surprised??

The Verdict: 0/10

It’s very unusual for me to dislike any food. I’m a pretty strong foodie and I love trying new things, but this shake… it let me down. It was a failed experiment, sorry Muppets.

The Only Perks

While this pickle shake left us wanting… anything else… we did save the cup – super cute theming! We also tried a few other things at the Brew-wing Lab that were great…

The Peanut Butter and Jelly Sticky Wings

These were a favorite and I would definitely get them again. Sticky, sweet with nice spices! I was surprised just how much I enjoyed the peanut butter and jelly flavors on a savory chicken wing. I hope they keep these around longer!

The Frozen Fusion

I was so glad we bought a different drink because after trying the pickle milkshake we needed something to cleanse our palates. The frozen fusion was quite good. It was a Pomegranate and Raspberry Herbal Tea, served with orange ice cream molecules (just like ‘dippin dots). It was cool and refreshing, and the kids loved the orange ice cream molecules.

You Can’t Win Them All

While Disney is known for its unique and creative culinary offerings, not every experiment can be a success, and this pickle milkshake was undoubtedly a failure. While I will still continue to try new, even weird, things at Disney I won’t be getting this one again.
