Morocco Pavilion’s Unique Collaboration

The Morocco Pavilion officially opened its doors on September 7, 1984. This pavilion is special because, unlike other pavilions in EPCOT, Morocco was fully sponsored by the government of Morocco for nearly 40 years! King Hassan II of Morocco sent actual craftsmen to help design and build the pavilion, ensuring every detail was authentic. This makes the pavilion not only authentic but also special in so many ways.

Architectural Wonders

The Moroccan government continued to play a role in the pavilion until October 2020 when the government’s sponsorship ended and Disney took over ownership of the pavilion.

Design and Architectural Details

The Morocco Pavilion Areas

The pavilion represents three main cities of Morocco: Casablanca, Fez, and Marrakesh. Each area within the pavilion showcases the unique architectural styles and cultural elements of these three cities.

The plaza area is the first area you come to – this is a mean to be the “new city” section of the Morocco Pavilion. The fountain is the main icon of this area.

The Minaret

When you visit the Morocco Pavilion you will see a large replica of the Koutoubia Minaret of Marrakesh, a prayer tower, dating back to the 12th century. It is a beautiful example of Moroccan architecture in the middle of this pavilion.

Tile Mosaic Fountain

Another fantastic spot to snap a photo is in front of the Tile Mosaic Fountain. The beautiful blue, green, and yellow tiles are placed in intricate patterns. This colorful backdrop is perfect for adding a splash of color to your photos.

The Fez Gate – Bab Boujeloud Gate

The Fez Gate (or the Bab Boujeloud Gate) is the beautifully tiled archway that will lead you into the Fez Medina. This is where you will find the Bazaar area full of shaded tables, and “shops”(most are not currently open). The back of the pavilion is meant to represent the “Old City”. You might notice the area feels more like a traditional Moroccan city with narrow pathways.

The Bazaar

The bazaar is a marketplace area with plenty of seating and storefronts. At the time of my visit none of the shops were open, many have been closed since 2020. You can pick up a nice drink at the Sangria stand that is open It’s a great place to relax. During certain hours of the day there is a drink and snack cart, Sangria Sips, that offers drinks like beer, cider and sangria! It also offers small snacks like olives, nuts and other treats.

The Fez House

This is one of my favorite spaces and you’ll find lots of guests in here taking photos. The Fez house is a replica of a traditional Moroccan home. The tilework in this room is so pretty and the fountain is a very popular photo opp.

The Morocco Pavilion at EPCOT is not just beautiful but also full of architectural and artistic touches that create the true feel of a Moroccan city. This pavilion showcases the rich and intricate design elements of Moroccan architecture.

Each element was crafted with so much precision that you can’t help but feel as if you’ve wandered into an actual Moroccan city. The tilework throughout the pavilion is gorgeous.

Dining Options at the Morocco Pavilion in EPCOT

Morocco has a few (delicious!) dining options. Tangerine Cafe, Spice Road Table, and Oasis Sweets and Sips are currently open. Sadly, a very popular dining spot, Restaurant Marrakesh has been “temporarily” closed for several years and has recently been used as a special lounge or Annual Passholder lounge, and currently houses the Morocco Kid Cot Location. Disney has not announced if or when the restaurant will reopen.

Tangierine Café – Quick Service Dining

Tangierine Café is a must-visit spot if you’re in the mood for a Mediterranean fare. This is also one of the best quick service options in EPCOT World Showcase if you enjoy really good food! You’ll find lamb, chicken, and even plant-based kabobs for a very reasonable price!

Spice Road Table (Table Service Dining)

If you are looking for a place to relax for a bit while taking in the views and enjoying a traditional Moroccan meal, Spice Road Table is the place to go. You can enjoy either indoor or outdoor seating. On super hot days it may be nice to get cooled off inside, but the views from the dining area outside are beautiful so I highly recommend outdoor dining.

At Spice Road Table, be prepared to share! You will a full menu of delicious Mediterranean tapas (small plates) which are perfect for sharing. Even the dessert platter is made to share. The food is delicious but don’t forget to try their Moroccan Mint Tea-it’s delicious!

Oasis Sweets & Sips

Oasis Sweets & Sips is a good spot to stop if you’re looking for a small treat or special drink. You’ll find a variety of traditional Moroccan pastries and beverages.

Attractions and Shows

The Morocco Pavilion at EPCOT not only has beautiful architecture and lush gardens but also offers a variety of attractions where you can learn more and experience Moroccan culture.

Race Against the Sun

Did you know that Morocco holds several extreme racing events?? Across the Sahara!? The Race Against the Sun exhibit shares more about these unique races. You can learn about the Marathon of the Sands and Rally of the Gazelles inside. You’ll see race gear, trophies, and more!

Gallery of Arts and History

The Gallery of Arts and History will give you a deeper look into the Moroccan culture and history. This gallery displays unique art and artifacts that will teach you about the different people who call Morocco home. The Traditional Berber Artifacts show what life as Morocco’s indigenous Berber people looked like. You’ll see Islamic art and see other historical items that were important in Morocco’s history.

Live Entertainment

You may be able to catch a performance by a group called Atlas Fusion. They perform traditional and contemporary Moroccan music. You may even catch a belly dancer or other performances. This group used to perform regularly but now you can usually catch them during one of EPCOT’s popular festivals like the International Festival of the Arts or Food and Wine.

Shopping Options at the Morocco Pavilion

When you step into the Morocco Pavilion at EPCOT, it’s like walking into a bustling Moroccan market. The authenticity and detail make shopping here a must-do experience. Let’s explore the two main shopping spots in this pavilion.

Unfortunately, some of the pavilion shopping options have changed or gone away. During festivals you may find shops pop up, so keep checking back.

Marketplace in the Medina – Currently Closed

The Marketplace in the Medina is still closed since the change of ownership in 2020.

Souk-al-Magreb

Souk-al-Magreb is another popular shopping destination within the Morocco Pavilion. You will find this strip of markets along the walkway outside of the pavilion. You will find traditional Moroccan textiles, gifts, and more.

Henna tattoo in the Morocco pavilion

You can find the Henna Tattoo Studio by the Lamps of Wonder. Check for operating hours and make sure you have about 10-20 minutes to have your henna tattoo finished. Prices are around $35 and the henna will last a few weeks. Check My Disney Experience on operation times.

Characters in the Morocco Pavilion

Meet Princess Jasmine

  • You can find Jasmine in the Morocco Pavilion. I had to ask a cast member to find out where she was meeting guests. The location changes occasionally.

Aladdin

Sometimes, (it’s very rare) you might also get the chance to meet Aladdin alongside Jasmine.

KidCot Fun Stop in the Morocco Pavilion

If you’re visiting EPCOT with kids, you shouldn’t miss the KidCot Fun Stop in the Morocco Pavilion. These stops are scattered throughout the World Showcase, providing young travelers with fun activities while learning about different cultures. Here’s everything you need to know about the KidCot Fun Stop in the Morocco Pavilion.

Location of the KidCot Fun Stop

  • The KidCot was recently located inside of the Restaurant Marrakesh. When I was there in August 2024 it was not there, like the signage instructed. I found it located just beyond the main entrance and fountain of the pavilion. If you can’t find what you are looking for be sure to find a cast member who will be happy to help you!

Unique Transportation in Morocco – Friendship boats

EPCOT has 2 Friendship boat routes, however, they have only had one running for the past few years. One of the boat landings is at the water in the Morocco pavilion. Typically this stop will take you across the water to World Celebration. Your feet will thank you!! Check My Disney Experience for running hours.

**As of August 2024, the Morocco to Canada Friendship boat is running.
