The France Pavilion History and Design
The France Pavilion at EPCOT is a must-see for anyone visiting Disney World. It’s designed to transport visitors with its architecture, beautiful gardens, and Parisian music and atmosphere.
The History of the France Pavilion
The France Pavilion opened in October 1982 as part of the original World Showcase lineup at EPCOT. Over the years, it has seen several changes, including adding new dining spots and the most recent big change, adding the popular “Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” ride, which opened in 2021.
Architecture and Design
Walking into the France Pavilion feels like stepping straight into a small Paris neighborhood. You can’t miss the scaled-down replica of the Eiffel Tower; Disney couldn’t have the country of France without including this iconic part of Paris’s skyline. The streets were designed to feel cozy with little shops, wrought iron balconies, and slate roofs, giving an authentic Parisian look.
I’m always impressed by the work of the Disney Imagineers, even the color palette of soft pastels, adds to the pavilion’s ambiance.
Landscaping and Gardens
The France Pavilion is not just about buildings; you’ll also find French-inspired gardens, beautifully topiaries, flower beds, and fountains. The central fountain is beautiful! It’s the perfect spot for taking a break and soaking in the atmosphere.
Without a doubt, the France Pavilion at EPCOT is one of my favorite spots in all of Disney World it’s a little slice of France right in the heart of Florida.
Dining options in the France Pavilion
The dining options in the France Pavilion are a major highlight if you are a foodie, especially if you’re in the park during one of EPCOT’s many festivals. From upscale dining-perfect for a romantic evening to casual eateries for a quick bite, there’s something to satisfy every craving.
Chefs de France
Chefs de France is a casual family restaurant that brings the flavors of France to the heart of EPCOT. The menu features a range of French classics such as French onion soup, beef Bourguignon, and seafood dishes. The atmosphere here is cozy and inviting, with large windows that offer nice views of the pavilion and its surroundings. Dining here feels like you’re in a popular Parisian bistro, with an elegant yet relaxed vibe.
Monsieur Paul
If you are looking for an impressive upscale dining experience, Monsieur Paul is the place to go. Located above Chefs de France, this sophisticated restaurant offers a gourmet menu. Here, you can enjoy delicacies like lobster, veal, and foie gras, all paired with excellent French wine. Every review I’ve read raves about the attention to detail, from the presentation of the food to the decor. Monsieur Paul is one of Disney World’s finest dining experiences. This one is on our Disney to-do list.
La Crêperie de Paris
If you’re in the mood for a truly traditional French treat, head over to La Crêperie de Paris. This quaint eatery offers a variety of sweet and savory crêpes. The savory options are known as galettes. They include ingredients like ham, cheese, and mushrooms, while the sweet crêpes feature chocolate, caramel, and fruit. The ambiance here is relaxed and friendly. It’s a great spot to enjoy a light meal or a delightful dessert.
Crêpes À Emporter by La Crêperie de Paris
If you are looking to grab a crêpe to go then you can stop at the Quick Service Window attached to La Crêperie de Paris.
This is a newer quick-service window that offers an abbreviated menu from La Crêperie de Paris. I love to grab a sweet berry crêpe at the window and find a table along one of the alleys in the pavilion. This is one of the few places you can grab something to eat during breakfast hours in World Showcase.
Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie
We stop by the Patisserie on every trip! Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie offers delicious French pastries, desserts, and quick bites. This bakery offers croissants, éclairs, quiches, baguette sandwiches and more! The setting mimics a bustling French bakery with its aromatic and warm atmosphere.
There are some tables and chairs but be warned it does get very busy! You can find something for breakfast here and we love to swing by on our way out of the parks to grab a French baguette – my husband’s favorite snack!
L’Artisan des Glaces
For a perfect sweet treat, visit L’Artisan des Glaces. This ice cream and sorbet shop offers a delightful selection of flavors. Popular items include the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich, which combines creamy ice cream with soft macarons, and the Croque Glacé, a unique pressed ice cream sandwich made with a warm brioche bun.
The shop is small inside and the line is always out-the-door. The line does move along pretty well so be sure to be patient, it’s worth the wait!
Les Vins des Chefs de France
This is a small stand where you can pick up the popular slushes or order a glass of champagne, wine, or beer.
Attractions and Shows
The France Pavilion at EPCOT offers several exciting attractions and shows, including the very popular Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure!
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a relatively new addition to the France Pavilion. It is a 4D dark ride for all ages. During the ride, you will “shrink down” to the size of Remy, the lovable rat from Disney’s “Ratatouille,” and embark on a wild culinary adventure through Gusteau’s Restaurant.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure uses trackless technology and 3D visuals to make you feel like you’re in the middle of the action. It’s perfect for kids and adults, with mostly gentle movements and fun entertaining scenes. Just be sure your little ones are ok wearing the 3D glasses during the ride or it will be hard for them to see anything. You’ll dodge kitchen hazards in the busy Parisian kitchen from a rat’s perspective.
Impressions de France
Impressions de France is a beautiful and classic 18-minute film that has been a staple of the France Pavilion since EPCOT’s opening. This panoramic film takes you on a scenic journey through the breathtaking landscapes and iconic landmarks of France, set to the score of classical French music.
Note: Impressions de France currently plays very early in the morning and for a short time in the evenings. Be sure to check My Disney Experience for the current schedule.
Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along
The Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along is a delightful show that families will love. This 15-minute show invites you to sing along to some of your favorite songs from “Beauty and the Beast,” with a unique twist to the familiar story. This show plays at different times throughout the day.

Shopping in the France Pavilion
The France Pavilion at EPCOT is a treasure trove for shoppers who appreciate the finer things in life. From luxurious French perfumes to unique artisanal goods, there’s something to delight every visitor. Let’s explore some of the distinctive shopping experiences you can enjoy here.
Don’t be confused by the signage or names of shops in the France Pavilion, they have changed over the years and many shops and buildings have more than one sign on them. I’ll do my best to show you photos and explain what you can expect from each shop.
Plume et Palette – Librarie et Galerie
Plume et Palette (Librarie et Galerie) is an elegant boutique that offers a taste of Parisian luxury. Stepping into this shop feels like entering a chic Paris store, where you’ll find perfumes and colognes, designer handbags, accessories, skincare, and other cosmetics.
If you walk out into the ally and across the way you will find the next shop, La Signature…
La Signature
La Signature is another fantastic store where you’ll find high-end French items. This shop carries French perfumes, cosmetics, jewelry, and other keepsakes.
You’ll find brands like Guerlain, Dior, Givenchy, Chanel, and other luxury skincare and cosmetics. These items make a thoughtful gift.
L’Esprit de la province – Aux Vins de France
You can find Remy-inspired home items, aprons, dishes, and more at this shop.
Les Vins de France
Les Vins de France is a quaint shop dedicated to French wines and spirits from different regions of France. You can try a glass of wine or pick up a bottle of French wine to take home.
Marché
Located in Les Halles you will find this traditional souvenir shop. This is where you can find Ratatouille-themed items, hats, plush toys, clothing, and more!
Characters you can meet in the France Pavilion
Belle
Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a frequent guest at the France Pavilion. You can usually find her close to the bridge that leads to the United Kingdom Pavilion. She is often in her town dress (blue dress) and in a shaded area sometimes by the water. Belle is often out in the afternoon. Always check the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date schedule.
Princess Aurora
Princess Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty, often graces the France Pavilion with her presence. You’ll find her in the garden area of France by the gazebo. Don’t forget to check the My Disney Experience app to find out what time you’ll find her, but we have seen her most mornings or early afternoons.
KidCot in the France Pavilion
KidCot Fun Stops are a great way for kids to engage with the different cultures represented in EPCOT’s World Showcase, and the France Pavilion is no exception. Be sure to grab your KidCot Passport and have fun throughout the park!
You will find the France KidCot location inside the Souvenirs de France shop, the KidCot station in France offers a unique and educational activity that both children and parents can enjoy. These stops are perfect for young ones to take a break from the park and get creative while learning something new about France.
Great Photo Spots in the France Pavilion
If you would like to capture some stunning photos during your visit to EPCOT, the France Pavilion offers some of the most picturesque spots in the park. From the iconic landmark – The Eiffel Tower – to charming building facades and nooks, here are some great locations to look for.

The fountain and garden area in the France Pavilion is a favorite spot for many visitors. You can sit along the fountain and position yourself to have a beautiful background.
In front of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure fountain and sign
Near the entrance to this adorable ride, you’ll find a beautiful fountain and the sign for the ride. I especially love catching a photo of the ride sign at night with the fountain in the foreground.
Photo with the Eiffel Tower in the background
The scaled-down replica of the Eiffel Tower is a must-have in your France Pavilion photo collection. For some of the best shots try moving to the bridge that connects France with the UK Pavilion, then you can have the entire tower in the background.
Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie

In front of the L’Artisan des Glaces (before they open!)
I love wandering through the Pavilions before they officially open. It’s a great way to get some distraction-free photos! The alleys in France are perfect for some quick shots. The front of the ice cream shop is another adorable place for photos!
PhotoPass locations in the EPCOT France Pavilion
Want a professional touch to your photos? Disney’s PhotoPass photographers are scattered throughout the pavilion. They can typically be found in these places:
- By the Fountain: Photographers here can help you get the perfect shot with the fountain and charming buildings in the background.
- Entrance to the France Pavilion: Photographers can capture you with the grand entrance and the Eiffel Tower in the distance. They also do some cute magic shots here!
- By Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure: Just outside this popular ride, photographers can snap a picture with the ride sign and fountain in the background.

Where to find the Bathrooms in EPCOT’s France Pavilion
You will find the bathrooms in the France Pavilion in these 2 locations:
- In Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie: This restroom is conveniently located at the rear of the pavilion in the bakery. It’s a bit tucked away, making it a quieter spot compared to other restrooms in EPCOT.
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure: There are additional restrooms near the entrance to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. These are new, clean, and usually less crowded.
Where to Find DRINKING Water
Staying hydrated is crucial during a day at EPCOT, especially in the warm Florida weather. The France Pavilion offers several convenient options to find a drink of water or fill your water bottle.
Water Fountains
You will find a drinking fountain in these locations:
- To the right of the pavilion’s fountain, you’ll find a drinking fountain. Rumor has it… This fountain has some of the coldest water around!
- You will also find a drinking fountain near the restrooms by La Creperie de Paris.
- A short walk away: by the International Gateway you will find a water bottle filling station in the Restrooms and Locker area before you enter the park. This is right around the corner (across the bridge) from the France Pavilion.
CUP OF WATER FROM Quick Service Restaurants
If you prefer bottled water or need a refill, the quick-service restaurants in the France Pavilion are your go-to destination. A few quick-service options in the France Pavilion are:
- Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie
- La Crêperie de Paris
Places to get out of the Heat and Rain
Weather in Florida can be unpredictable, but that doesn’t have to ruin your day at EPCOT. When the skies open up and you find yourself looking for a dry spot, the France Pavilion offers several places to wait out the rain. I’ve also included several of the best air-conditioned spots in the France Pavilion so you have somewhere to cool off during the hot summer afternoons.

Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie – One of my go-to spots when I need a break from the heat or rain is Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie. This charming bakery is tucked away at the back of the pavilion and offers a delicious selection of pastries, sandwiches, and drinks. Be prepared for it to get busy when there is a downpour, it is the largest space inside so people head here first! It is air-conditioned and is a nice respite from the heat. It does get busy and seating can be hard to come by but if you’re patient you can usually get a seat.
Palais Du Cinema – If you’re looking for a longer escape from the rain or heat, head to the Palais Du Cinema home to Impressions de France and the Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-Long. Impressions de France is an 18-minute film that takes you on a scenic journey through the landscapes of France and is available first thing in the morning and later in the evening. Throughout the day you can catch showings of the sing-a-long.
Grab a Bite to Eat – If possible get on the walk-up list or find a reservation for one of the dining options in the pavilion.
Do a little Souvenir Shopping – For a quick escape from the rain, walk through the many shops in the France pavilion. I’ve listed several shops above.
One of my favorite Disney vacation memories was when my daughter and I got stuck in a terrible downpour in the France Pavilion. It was quite an adventure but we tried to make the most of it and have fun anyway.
Where to escape the Crowds and Take a Break
The France Pavilion at EPCOT is often bustling with activity, but there are a few spots where you can unwind and enjoy a few minutes of peace.
The Gardens by the Water – Another serene spot is the gardens located near the lagoon. These beautifully maintained gardens offer a peaceful respite from the crowds. There are benches available in some shaded areas.
Bridge Between France and UK Pavilions – The bridge connecting the France Pavilion and the UK Pavilion offers a peaceful spot with a wonderful view. It’s a nice spot to find a little peace and enjoy a treat or drink while taking in the views.
Palais Du Cinema – This cinema is where Impressions de France and the Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-long are performed. There is a large lobby where you can enjoy a few minutes of peace while you view several costumes, artwork, and other props from France that have inspired Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and more!
Courtyard Near Impressions de France – Just before you enter the theater for Impressions de France, there’s a charming area that often goes unnoticed. You’ll find a few benches and it’s especially quiet once a show begins and the crowds have gone inside.
Alleys and Alcoves -The France Pavilion has several narrow side streets and alcoves that can provide a little shade and peace.
Coin Press Machine in EPCOT’s France Pavilion
You’ll find the coin press machine in Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie gift shop area beside the KidsCot Table. You can get several France-themed pressed pennies at this machine, featuring Remy, Marie, Belle and more!
Fun Facts about the France Pavilion
Eiffel Tower Replica
One of the most captivating features of the France Pavilion is the replica of the Eiffel Tower. While it may not be as tall as the actual Eiffel Tower in Paris, Disney Imagineers have used a clever trick called forced perspective to make it appear taller than it really is. The Eiffel Tower in the pavilion is only about 1/10th the size of the real one, but because it’s positioned farther back with smaller details at the top, it looks much taller!
The tower is actually sitting on top of the Cinema to make it appear taller and was built using the original Eiffel Tower blueprints.
Scooter
You will see a scooter and motorbike by the entrance to the ride. These are Chef Skinner’s and Chef Colette’s from the movie.
Remy footprints
On the pavement, you’ll discover Remy’s footprints traced in the concrete.
Sewer cover details
Look at the sewer covers in the street to find Remy paddling his little boat with a spatula.
Street Signs and doors
Take a closer look at the street signs and doors to see if you can find some other easter eggs hidden in the France Pavilion. Can you figure out why these are easter eggs?
